1,2-Propanediol is a chemical reagent, miscible with water, ethanol and a variety of organic solvents, and its chemical formula is C3H8O2. 1,2-Propanediol is a colorless viscous liquid under normal conditions, nearly odorless, slightly sweet in the nose. Propylene glycol is used as a raw material for unsaturated polyester resins. In cosmetics, toothpaste and soap, it can be used as a wetting agent with glycerin or sorbitol. It is also used as a wetting and leveling agent in hair dyes, as an antifreeze, and in cellophane, plasticizers and the pharmaceutical industry.
