Classification
Methanol (CH3OH) is the most simple structure of saturated monohydric alcohol, CAS No. 67-56-1 or 170082-17-4, molecular weight is 32.04, boiling point is 64.7 ℃. Because it was first found in the dry distillation of wood, it is also called “wood alcohol” or “wood spirit”. It is a colorless liquid with alcohol odor and volatile. The lowest dose of oral poisoning is about 100mg/kg body weight, and 0.3~1g/kg can be killed by oral intake. Used in the manufacture of formaldehyde and pesticides, etc., and used as an extractant of organic matter and denaturant of alcohol. Finished products are usually produced by reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen.
