Chromium trioxide (chromium trioxide), chromic anhydride, molecular formula CrO3, molecular weight 99.99. Dark red or dark purple rhombohedral crystals, easily deliquescent. It decomposes when heated to the melting point and completely decomposes when heated to the boiling point. Used in the production of chromium compounds, oxidizers, catalysts, but also used in wood preservation, electroplating and so on. Produced by the reaction of concentrated sulfuric acid and potassium dichromate.
Use
1. Mainly used in electroplating industry, do bicycle, sewing machine, watches, meters, flashlights, daily-use hardware, such as chromium plating of raw materials, but also for the system of high-purity chromium metal. It is the raw material for the manufacture of chromium oxide green and zinc chromium yellow; it is also the raw material for the production of low-temperature transformation catalyst, high-temperature transformation catalyst and high-pressure methanol synthesis catalyst. It is used as mordant when dyeing wool fabrics and as oxidizing agent in printing and dyeing industry. In addition, it is also used for wood preservation.
2. Used as the catalyst for medium pressure polyethylene production by Phillip's method.
